Helen, Georgia

Helen, Georgia is a beautiful and unique alpine village in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northeast Georgia

Helen-Georgia is an exquisite little jewel of a town that has been re-created by forward thinking citizens to resemble an alpine village. A huge Bavarian celebration in the fall is Oktoberfest. When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon during Oktoberfest, the party was in full swing despite an automobile accident that left almost the whole area (including our motel) without electricity for several hours.

Just a couple of miles from town is the Unicoi State Park and Lodge. We enjoyed a great buffet lunch there. You'll enjoy browsing through the gift shop in the Lodge. Many of the gift items are created by locals.

Tubing appears to be very popular in Helen, along with shopping, horseback riding, hiking, and, of course, dining on that great Bavarian food. We just happened to stumble upon a car museum that was really fascinating.

Nearby is the town of Dahlonega, site of America's first Gold Rush. Dahlonega celebrates this with a huge festival each October called Gold Rush Days. Vendors, music, contests, food, dancing - you name it, they have it! I enjoyed wandering through the many antique shops around the town square.

You will find multiple choices of lodging - hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, inns, condos, cabins or campsites.
