George Frideric Handel
George Frideric Handel was born February 23, 1685 and died April 14, 1759. He was a German-born Baroque composer who is famous for his operas, oratorios and concerti grossi. He spent most of his adult life in England, becoming a subject of the British crown. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born January 27, 1756 and died December 5,1791. He was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era. The Nose (an Opera)Have you heard of an opera called "The Nose"? It's about a nose that becomes detached from its owner's face and develops a life of its own. The noseless owner searches for his nose but his nose has found a higher station in life and does not want to return. The opera, composed by Dmitri Shostakovich in 1927-28, is based on the story "The Nose" by Nikolai Gogol. It has been performed in the US in Boston and in March of 2010 in New York City at the Metropolitan Opera.
