Here's some info on a non-surgical nose job for you to consider.

Considering a "Nose Job?" - Know The Facts Before You Commit
Author: Michele Ellingsen

One of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures in the United States is rhinoplasty - the reshaping of a nose, often referred to as a "nose job". Right now, about two hundred thousand Americans decide to change the shape of their noses every year, and this number is ever increasing.

The reshaping of the nose can do much to enhance your looks as well as your body image. But of course, like other cosmetic procedures, you should not expect changes in your appearance to change your entire life. Still, our self-esteem is often affected by our looks, so it is not uncommon for certain parts of our anatomy to bother us. For men and women alike the nose is often a source of unhappiness. When the nose is out of proportion or has certain characteristics that make it less attractive to the eye, we often think about changing it.

The nose is the most prominent feature on our face so whether we are viewed head on or in profile, the nose is the center of attention. Typical nasal problems that are addressed through rhinoplasty operations are large noses ... a bump on the nose ... a nose that is too wide or is crooked ... a nose where the end is too large or hangs down ... and the "ski jump" nose. Sometimes a patient's nose has a combination of several of these concerns.

The best nose reshaping is one in which your nose still looks true to your ethnic background and to your facial bone structure. So it's important that you have reasonable expectations about what kind of result is surgically possible for your face.

To flip through a magazine and pick out a nose shape that you would like to have is unrealistic. A very large nose simply can't be replaced with a very small one. You don't want to go to a surgeon where every nasal surgery result looks the same. You want to find a surgeon who knows how to create a more normal and beautiful nose that is right for you.

When you visit a board certified plastic surgeon and talk to him or her about nasal surgery there are some basic points to explore. First and foremost you want to see actual "before and after" photographs of that doctor's patient results. Then, as a tool to assess your surgeon's skills, you want to know how long the surgeon has been in practice and how much of his or her practice involves nasal surgery.

You'll also want your surgeon to offer "imaging." Through imaging, the doctor uses computer software to create - on an image of your own face - a picture of what is reasonably achievable for you, both face-on and in profile. With the help of this visual aid, you'll have a clearer understanding of what your final results will be, eliminating nasty surprises and disappointments.

If you are considering rhinoplasty, be sure to thoroughly research all the most common procedures so you'll know exactly what you're asking for and what your surgeon is recommending. The more you know about rhinoplasty, the better your choices will be.

Note: The specific risks and the suitability of nasal surgery for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation with a surgeon. All procedures have some degree of risk. The information provided here is not a substitute for a consultation.

Considering Rhinoplasty Surgery - The Different Procedures
Author: Susan Chen

Birth defect or accidents may unfortunately leave you with a rather unshapely nose that does not match your face well in shape or size. Rhinoplasty surgery, which is a branch of plastic surgery, was developed initially for corrective surgery on the nose to fit in better proportion to the face. This surgery was also intended to correct the shape of the nose to eliminate the problem of constricted breathing. Apart from these benefits from corrective surgery, rhinoplasty in recent years is increasingly being viewed as a way to bring aesthetic changes to the face.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic procedures today, with hundreds of thousands of patients undergoing rhinoplasty surgery each year. Despite its popularity, rhinoplasty is viewed as one of the most difficult cosmetic procedures. Motives for having rhinoplasty surgery may differ, be it improvement in the breathing process, reduction or enhancement in the nose size, or eradication of injury marks. Depending on the patient's condition the rhinoplasty surgeon can use local or general anesthesia. This nose reshaping procedure generally does not take more than two hours in most of the cases.

There are two main techniques involved in the procedure of rhinoplasty, namely closed and open rhinoplasty.

Closed Rhinoplasty

If a minor reshaping is required, most rhinoplasty surgeons prefer to make incisions within the nose and then to insert an instrument that separates the skin of the nose from the bone and cartilage. After being exposed in this manner, the bone and cartilage are removed. They are then reshaped and rearranged to give the nose the desired shape. After the rearrangement is complete, the nose tissues are spread over the newly shaped structures. Towards the end of the procedure the original incisions are closed up.

Open Rhinoplasty

When it involves a major nose reshaping job, rhinoplasty surgeons prefer not to make incisions inside the nose. In case of a major reshaping, the incisions are made over an area of the nose called the columella which is a vertical strip of skin that separates the nostrils. This is a comparatively more complex procedure and referred to as "open" rhinoplasty.

After the reshaping of the nose is complete, incisions are closed up immediately in both the cases. Some puffy materials are used inside the nose to support the renewed structure along the nasal air passages. In addition to that, an external splint is also applied to the nose for at least six to eight days to help the nose keep its new shape. This splint also helps the nose through the healing process.
