The Sweet Sleep Organization Gives Them A Place To Rest Their Noses
Maybe, after reading about "Sweet Sleep", you'll want to give them a place to rest their noses.
I read an article in the newspaper that touched me so much I had to respond. Have you ever done that? Sometimes, we read a sad story or hear of a devastating loss and think momentarily "I'd like to do something about that" and then just continue on with our lives. Well, Jen Gash of Nashville, Tennessee acted upon her thoughts. She responded to a call in her church that led her to travel to Moldova, the poorest country in Europe, to assist in an orphanage there. Her first trip eventually led to her quitting her job as an assistant to the mayor to pursue her dream. She founded an organization, www.sweetsleep.org, to help the children she'd fallen in love with. The article I read told of her new organization and offered readers a way to respond.
She tells how more than half of the children in Moldovan orphanages did not have a bed of their own. The children share broken metal beds and old, often soiled mattresses. For $150 you can give a child a comfortable bed upon which to rest their nose each night, a bed built by discharged male orphans being taught carpentry skills by her program.
I sent our contribution in memory of our youngest son, Dave Roberson (1/25/72 - 9/26/03). I think about Dave's bed in Moldova often and the children who've slept in it. I pray their sleep has, indeed, been sweet.
